Our schedule this year really runs the gamut for all levels of poker enthusiasts, so we hope you will peruse the events and make your plans to join us this summer at the Rio.”

The goal of increasing the number of players who reach the money is to try and increase the percentage of poker tourists who return home having had a winning experience in an event. As more players get paid, the theory is that more players will return for future years.

Highlights of the 2016 WSOP

The entirety of the 2016 WSOP consists of 69 bracelet events and many smaller buy-in satellites. This year, the WSOP has added eight new tournaments which include a team event and an eight-handed no-limit hold’em tournament with a $888,888 guaranteed first place prize.

Here’s a rundown of what to expect from the eight new events:

The lowdown on WSOP 2016

On May 31 the action kicks off with registration for series events and daily satellites. The first actual tournament of the series, as is always the case, is the Casino Employees No-Limit Hold’em Tournament on June 1.

WSOP has stated that it has addressed much of the player feedback it has received previously and has made some slight tweaks to this summer’s series. Key changes to this year’s series include changes to tournament structure, times of events, and the percentage of paid spots. One change from last year will again be part of the schedule – Event #66 which is a no-limit hold’em tournament hosted online at WSOP NV.

The World Series of Poker Circuit enters it’s thirteenth season this year, and today an announcement from the WSOP confirms that it will be the biggest in the history of the tour with 22 domestic stops and at least 6 international stops as well, with up to eight more expected to be announced in the future.

“We are excited to be adding a couple new stops to the domestic tour this year, expanding the international tour and continuing to refine each stop to make them bigger and better,” WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart said in a press realease. “We want to continue to provide the opportunity for everyone to take a shot at becoming a World Series of Poker champion.”

The international stops that are confirmed so far include series in Italy, Germany, the Czech Republic, Uruguay, France and St. Maarten.

The 2016 – 17 season kickS off on August 4 at Harrah’s Cherokee in western North Carolina and continues pretty much nonstop through next May. This year features two new domestic events, the first at Potawatomi in Milwaukee, WI which runs from February 2-13, 2017 and the second at the Hard Rock Tulsa from March 16-27.

This year the season will once again conclude with the Global Casino Championship. Players can qualify for that event, the full details of which are still to be announced, by winning a Circuit Main Event at any domestic or international stop, winning a “Casino Championship,” by accumulating the most points throughout a schedule at any domestic or international stop or by being one of the top 50 cumulative point earners over the entire season who hasn’t otherwise qualified (Domestic tour only).
Each of these projected 122 players will receive a free seat into the culminating event, which features a $1 million prize pool added by the WSOP.

Another way to enter this year’s Global Casino Championship is to win any official ring event or be in the top 100 ranked players from the previous year’s WSOP Player of the Year standings. Player who meet this criteria may buy in for $10,000 which will be added directly to the prize pool.
